Volenteer Opportunities: Doing research to get involved

There are so many different organizations you can volunteer your time depending on your interests or likes. You can check volunteer match for some ideas or do some research on your own.  Here are a few opportunities I'm looking into as I try to find an organization I can support.  I have done some volunteering in the past, I want to do more but I have been procrastinating about getting started.  This is my start.
  • Donors Choose:  Funds specific project requests from teachers in the US public schools
  • Global Giving:  a marketplace that connects donors to 1,000 pre-screened grassroots charity projects around the world
  • Modest Needs:  assists families who are unable to pay their monthly bills
  • Kiva:  which is peer to peer micro lending to the applicant of the donor's choice
  • Charity Navigator:  an independent charity evaluator to research other charities.
  • ValleyCare Axillary:  They are always looking for volunteers to staff the gift shop, thrift shop and other areas they serve.  Call 925-735-3368
  • Heather Farms: 925-947-153
  • Meals on Wheels: 925-937-8607, 935-937-8311
  • Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, 925-771-1315
  • Bay Area Rescue Mission:  Serving homeless people in Richmond
  • Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa:  Serving hot meals
  • Christmas for Everyone:  Christmas celebration in Concord.
  • John Muir Health Services
  • Volunteer Match:  pick projects based on your zip code
  • Volunteer Abroad:  worldwide opportunities
