I have a follow up on the chlorine washed bagged salads, some good news and some bad.
If you still should wash, triple washed bagged lettuce, what is the point! http://caloriecount.about.com/bagged-salad-safe-eat-b390158
I learned that Fresh Express has created a new wash to replace the chlorine, it is organic acids. Organic sounds good, acids not so much but then they say one of them is lactic acid found in cows milk so again I think better than chlorine. Check out the NY Times article to see what they say. It sounds like this is a step in the right direction and if people move towards Fresh Express because of this other companies will follow.
I also learned that the chlorine bath isn't used in Europe for organic products and in some countries like France it's not allowed on any fruit. The USA needs to follow suit. Maybe this all relates back to why French people are not fat. United States citizens purchase too much processed food. www.healthwriter.co.uk/ready-to-eat-salads.html
I then read that baby carrots go through the same process, check out this article. I love my baby carrots and I don't want to get rid of them. I now need to follow up with organic baby carrots and see if they are not chlorine washed.
