I never liked it when I went over to someones house who kept the toilet lid down. I wondered why it was necessary. Did they have a thirsty dog, kids who didn't understand that playing in the toilet was gross, was it something they grew up with or was it the new thing we now hear about how far the germs fly when a flush happens.
Since my toilet and toothbrush were never in the same room and I don't have dogs or kids I didn't pick up this new habit until I got Pumpkin, my new cat. I don't know why she insists on drinking out of the bowl but ever since I got her my habits had to change. At first it was a pain but then I learned to accept it in my household and in others. It no longer annoys me when I find a closed toilet seat unless it's in a public restroom, only because that means I need to touch it.
I also now think of all the germs that fly onto the hand towel making hand washing less effective so thanks to Pumpkin my world is a bit less germ filled.
And lastly, the other bathroom issue. The big debate over how to put toilet paper on the roll. I really can't understand why anyone would place the paper under vs. over. It is so much easier to grab the paper when it's on top, vs. fumbling for it underneath. Unless Pumpkin starts to shred the paper and turning it under corrects the problem I don't seen any reason for me to change this habit. My vote is for over. I'll sometimes even correct the role in other people's house. I wonder if they question how it got this way, and do they change it back or does it simply not matter to them.
