Sunday Afternoon in North Beach

North Beach is our favorite districts in SF.  You can walk their from the Montgomery Bart station and once up in North Beach there are a ton of bars and restaurants to check out.  We often head over on the weekend to bar hop and eat our way through the city.

Our goal this Sunday was to try to only go to new places.  We have our regular spots that we normally hit but on this visit I wanted to get out of our rut and discover something new so this trip took us to the following spots.

Tope:  1326 Grant Ave.  The dark painted walls, wire basket lights over the bar and mello vibe with rege and jazz playin in the back ground was the perfect place to kick off a sunny day in the city.  Although I had my regular cocktail I think it is a place to see what their specialities are because on the bar sat an assortment of fresh herbs (mint, basil, etc.).

Sweeties475 Francisco St (between Powell St & Mason St).  Sweeties doesn't have a web site so I linked to my review.  Great local bar with an eclectic feel for a drink without a ton of tourists, close to tourist attractions but with a local bar vibe and price.

Fior D'Italia2237 Mason St (between Chestnut St & Water St).  Recommended by the bartender at Sweeties for half priced appetizers.  The prices were great (not only half priced apps but drinks also), great food, I recommend calamari and meatballs and use the sourdough bread to soak up all the red sauce.  Next visit, and there will be a next, we will try a few more appetizers.  I also wrote them up on YELP.

Lastly we finished off with a few of our regular spots:  O'Reileys Irish pub but unfortunately I was upset to find that the Celtic Nachos are no longer on their menu.  I must protest, they were the bomb and I'm sad that I my recient discovery is already come to pass.  See Examiner review.  Then Cheesesteak at Busters, which we take to go only to eat the next pub which today was Specs' Twelve Adler Museum Cafe.
