Salty Dog Rose Sangria was my signature drink for Superbowl LIV aka 54. Everyone loved it and thought it was refreshing. I only had 2 glasses left at end of the night which I finished off as I vegged on the couch in front of the TV. Very tasty, sweet but not too sweet, some would say balanced. Adding soda water would make it less sweet and more drinkable for me if I'm having multiples.
SALTY DOG ROSE SANGRIA
2 bottles rose wine
1 C. Deep Eddy ruby red grapefruit flavored vodka
2 C. ruby red grapefruit juice
1 grapefruit, sliced
12 oz. can ginger ale
Simple Syrup:
1 C. water
1 C. sugar
In a small saucepan mix water and sugar. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low and cook for 10 minutes. Cool.
Zest grapefruit (if you want to salt the rim) then slice in thin rounds. Add to pitcher along with half or all the other ingredients except ginger ale. Add ginger ale before first drink is poured to keep it fizzy.
Note: This makes a large batch about 94 oz. so I make one batch at a time. That way if it doesn’t go I don’t waste the wine and it is simple to make another batch and reuse the fruit.
Rose Wine: Ask your local wine shop for suggestions as I did. I was looking for a $10 bottle. I picked Dune: Gris De Gris because the fruit notes were grapefruit but many other notes like strawberry or peach would also be good.
The Cubano Slider was great, maybe crispier top next time vs. them being so Hawaiian Roll soft. That might en tale the whole amount of butter another recipe called for.
CUBANO SLIDERS
24 pkg. Hawaiian sweet rolls
1 pork tenderloin, cooked, sliced
8 slices ham, quartered
8 slices swiss, quartered
8 dill pickle slicles, quartered
2 T. mustard
2 T. mayonnaise
Butter Spread:
1/2 T. Everything bagel spice
2 T. butter
1/2 T. Dijon mustard
Notes: In place of Everything bagel spice you can use dried minced onions. Omit the mayo if they will be sitting out for a long time. Shown here as I assembled.
Cook pork tenderloin till it reaches 145F. Let rest, 10 minutes. Slice thinly. Lightly grease a 9x13 inch pan. Split buns and place bottoms in pan. Mix mayo and mustard. Spread on bottom layer. Top each bun with 1/4 cheese slice, 2 slices pork tenderloin, 1/4 slices ham, 2 slices pickle, 1/4 piece cheese, top half of buns. Melt butter spread. Brush on top of buns. Bake 325 for 10 minutes.
These Meatball Biscuits were good however they were a bit large, a smaller bite would be better. As Julie said more popable which is why I was cutting mine in half. It was larger like a sandwich which was what I was going for but more bites area better and it was a bit too much bread. It needed a dipping sauce. Maybe pizza dough would be a better option. I served it with warm pizza sauce but next day I mixed mustard and ketchup and liked that burger vibe better. I brushed it with a little butter and Everything Bagel spice which I forgot about. R3.5 for modified original recipe from Molly Yeh in Girl Meets Farm.
MEATBALL STUFFED BISCUITS
16 My Homemade Meatballs, fresh or frozen, baked
2 (16 oz.) cans biscuits (8 biscuts per can)
Mozzarella

On a foil lined cookie sheet, spray with oil or line with parchment. Add frozen or fresh meatballs. Bake 400F for 30 minutes. Let cool. Balls should be the smallest scoop, less than an inch. Cut biscuits in half. Press out with fingertips. Top with mozzarella and cheddar. Wrap each half around a meatball. Press seems together. Bake seem side down in baking dish. for 20 minutes. Brush with butter, sprinkle with Parmesan. Bake another 5-10 if not too brown.
Serving Suggestions:
- Pizza Sauce
- Queso Blanco
- Marinara Sauce
- Thousand Island
- Dijon and Ketchup
EVERYTHING BAGEL CHEESEBALL: Roll your cheeseball in 1/2 C. of Everything Bagel Spice. This new recipe needed a bit less horseradish and sour cream flavor but a great spice to roll your cheeseball inn.
OLD FAVORITES: Caramelized Onion Dip with Ruffles, Spinach Artichoke Won Ton Cups,
THE LOOSERS:
Taco Bites: Tortilla chips with a smear of refried beans topped with Mozzarella and cheddar then baked. Trying to make the Taco Bites at Jack in the Box that I haven't tasted yet but they stuck to the foil (should have used parchment), they were soggy and not stable enough to pick up no less fold (too small and thin).
