What I Learned Today...Gaba Rice

I purchased something called Gaba Rice last week at Costco, with a fine print stating it was brown rice, which is what I was looking for.  I liked that it said it was USDA Organic so not knowing the difference I thought, why not give it a try.  Like I expected it looked and tasted like brown rice.

Today I looked up Gaba Rice to see what the difference was and this is what I found.
  • Gaba rice is germinated brown rice.
  • It comes from the process of bringing brown rice into germination, which means it is soaked in water
  • Germinating the rice results in more nutrients and more "GABA"
  • Gaba rice has a softer texture, making it easier to consume
Brown rice contains many nutrients such as dietary fiber, phytic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E and GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). The soaking just gives you more nutrients and more "GABA".  The nutrients in brown rice help prevent diseases such as cancer and diabetes and also helps in controlling body weight.

So in conclusion I will continue to purchase Whole Grain Gaba Rice going forward vs. regular brown rice.  The bonus is that it is better for you along with being organic. I take one more step towards a healthier life.
